Michael Jordan has agreed to sell his majority stake in the Charlotte Hornets to a group led by Gabe Plotkin and Rick Schnall, the team announced Friday. The transaction ends Jordan’s 13-year run as majority owner.

Schnall, a minority owner with the Atlanta Hawks, and Plotkin, a minority owner with the Hornets, will become the franchise’s governors once the NBA completes its vetting and approval process. Jordan will continue to oversee basketball operations through next Thursday’s NBA draft and the start of free agency on July 1.

Once the sale is complete, Jordan is expected to keep a minority stake and a presence with the franchise.

Jordan, a six-time NBA champion and five-time MVP, is largely considered to be the greatest player in the history of the game and has been the league’s only Black majority owner. Jordan paid $275 million for a majority stake in the franchise in 2010.

Jordan sold a significant minority stake to Plotkin, founder and chief investment officer of Melvin Capital, and Daniel Sundheim, founder and chief investment officer of D1 Capital, in 2020, and Sundheim is part of the group purchasing the Hornets, sources said.

Schnall, co-president at private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice in New York, was part of a group that includes majority owner Tony Ressler and Grant Hill that purchased the Hawks in 2015 for $850 million.

The Lionel Messi sweepstakes appear to be over. The most coveted free agent in soccer history is set to sign with Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami, according to a report from Guillem Balague.

The 35-year-old superstar officially leaves PSG this month when his contract expires after two seasons with the French giants. After spending his entire career with Barcelona, he made the jump to France after his beloved team could no longer afford him under La Liga’s financial rules, seeing an end to an iconic era at the club with diminutive Argentina as the face, winning every prize imaginable more than once. 

Messi, fresh off winning the World Cup with Argentina in December to likely cement his legacy as the greatest ever, now gets his wish of playing in the United States with the possibility of former Barcelona teammates joining him in South Florida.

Landing Messi would be an all-time coup for the league, likely even more impactful than the one of Inter Miami club president David Beckham, who left Real Madrid to join the Los Angeles Galaxy back in 2007.

As Messi approached his mid-thirties, retirement was always going to be a possibility. However, he showed no signs of slowing down and remained passionate about the sport he had dedicated his life to.

Whether Messi’s next chapter takes him to retirement or back to the field, his impact on the soccer world will continue to be felt for generations to come. His technical genius and incredible talent will stand the test of time, and fans will always remember him as one of the greatest soccer players to ever grace the field. According to recent reports, his father and agent Jorge Messi had a positive meeting with Barcelona president Joan Laporta which might mean el regresso está más cerca.

Francisco Ferreira better known in the soccer world as Ferro officially terminated  his contract with Benfica to sign a permanent contract with the Croatian league squad Hadjuk Split and the duration of the contract will be for three and a half seasons. Truth be told, he has not been having as much opportunities with the Portuguese club ever since the end of the 2019\2020 season and a season later he would have so many terrible performances.

The Portuguese newspaper O JOGO ( The Game) states: “Ferro, remember, was lent by the reds to Vitesse, from the Netherlands. He has only played ten games since the start of the season and now he is leaving on loan, heading to Croatia, in a transfer made by Wasserman, a company that also represents Grimaldo’s interests at Benfica. The business, including sporting objectives, will be around 1.5 million euros.”
